A man has been jailed for raping a woman at knifepoint in her own home.

Sevdalin Atanasov appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, June 12 for sentencing after entering a guilty plea for the offence of rape at the same court in January.

The court had heard that at around 12.30am on Tuesday, October 22 last year, the victim, a woman in her 30s, awoke to find Atanasov in her bedroom with his hand over her mouth.

Holding a knife to her throat, he raped her, while threatening to kill her throughout the ordeal.

The victim managed to flee to a friend’s address where they called the police.

Atanasov, 32, was at the flat as he knew one of the woman’s flatmates, and they had agreed he could spend the night at the address.

When questioned by police he initially denied the offence, but entered a guilty plea after being shown forensic evidence of the assault.

Atanasov, a Turkish national, of Exeter Road, Enfield, was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment for the rape.
