A Rotherham taxi driver who raped two young girls has been jailed.

Adam Ali, 43, has been put behind bars for 13 years after he was found guilty of three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault earlier this year.

The offences involved girls as young as 12 and 13.

Ali was released from prison after serving an 11-year term in April 2023 for separate sexual offence,s but was arrested by officers from the National Crime Agency in relation to further offences just a month later.

Officers had discovered he was planning to travel to Pakistan.

As he was sentenced on Tuesday at Sheffield Crown Court, Ali was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 15 years.

YorkshireLive previously reported Ali, known as Razwan Razaq at the time of his offending, carried out his attacks between 2002 and 2004. Ali’s victims – now in their 30s – were scared to report what he did to them at the time, but they have bravely spoken out after National Crime Agency officers identified they were victims and contacted them.

One victim was just 12-years-old when she was introduced to Ali by a friend. Ali routinely drove the girl to his house in Bramley where he sexually abused and raped her.

Along with his friends he groomed a second victim – who was 13-years-old – by plying her with drink and drugs over the course of several months.

One night, after pretending to be concerned for her welfare, Ali offered to drive the girl home and raped her partway through the journey.

Following the sentencing on Tuesday, NCA Senior Investigating Officer, Stuart Cobb said: “I would once again like to pay tribute to the victims in this case, who showed immense courage in coming forward and telling their stories.

“They went through experiences no child should ever have to, and I hope that the sentence handed down today can at least help them feel that justice has been done.

“Operation Stovewood continues, and we are determined to do all we can to protect victims and bring offenders before the courts.”

Specialist prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, Liz Fell, said: “Adam Ali purposefully targeted his victims with the view that he could exploit them for sex.

“Child sexual abuse is a traumatising crime, the devastating impact of which can last a lifetime. We would like to commend the victims in this case for coming forward and reporting what happened to them.

“It is because of their evidence that we were able to secure a conviction and bring their abuser to justice.

“I hope this conviction sends a clear message that the CPS, working alongside law enforcement, will relentlessly pursue justice and prosecute those who sexually exploit children, whenever that abuse takes place.

“I encourage any victims of child sexual abuse and sexual violence to report the crimes committed against them to the police. It is never too late to seek justice.”
