Haider Ali is on trial accused of raping two women on the streets of Stockton last year
The trial of a man accused of raping two women in the early hours of the morning, in Stockton, has heard evidence from one of the alleged victims.
Haider Ali, 31, is standing trial at Teesside Crown Court accused of raping one woman twice, and another woman hours later, near Yarm Road in the early hours of one morning late last year. The second woman was out working and the jury has heard that she agreed to carry out a sex act for £20, with Ali.
The woman said that she “first saw Ali near Park Road.” She said that they walked into a derelict building near the social club. She said: “He looked really nervous. I’m pretty careful about who I go with. He spoke softly, like a female if I’m honest.”
The woman said that she told Ali: “I don’t want to do it unless you pay me.” She told the court that Ali “got hold of me. He is 6ft 3, he’s massive. I accepted it. I just thought it’s going to happen now. I’m not going to fight it and hurt myself.”
The alleged victim told the police that Ali pushed her against a wall, near a spiral staircase in the building, pulled clothing down and raped her. She later told the police that Ali had thrown a condom wrapper on the floor.
She also later told police that she said to Ali: “You’re going to pay me. You hurt me.”
“I told him, ‘that’s sexual assault mate. I’ll call the police’. I showed him my phone with 999 on the screen. I wasn’t f****** around.”
The woman said that she waited for five minutes for Ali to pay her because she “didn’t want to call the police” and then she told him he could just give her £10.
“He was on his hands and knees saying ‘please don’t call the police’,”she said. “He grabbed hold of me whilst the operator was talking to me. As soon as I told them where I was, he legged it down Yarm Lane.”
The alleged victim told the court that her friend tried to chase Ali for the cash.
The jury watched CCTV footage showing Ali and the alleged victim both walking on Yarm Road after midnight on the night of the alleged rapes.
On Thursday, the jury heard that she asked the police for 24 hours “to think about what to do about this” when they visited her; but that her dad reported the alleged rape the next day.
“Isn’t what actually happened not rape, but a dispute about payment?” Ali’s defence barrister Paul Abrahams asked.
“No” replied the alleged victim, “there was no agreement on sex.”
Haider Ali, of of Ayresome Street in Middlesbrough, denies three counts of rape.
The trial continues.
