A carer who sexually assaulted a woman in her home has been jailed. Angelo Regis, 37, admitted attempting to rape and sexually assault a woman in her 80s who he was supposed to looking after at her home last June.
Regis, of Bridport, was a care assistant when, on Monday, June 2, 2024, he visited the victim’s home as part of her care package. While she was in the bathroom, he locked her front door and followed her. Regis sexually assaulted her in the bathroom before he attempted to rape her in her bedroom.
The victim reported the matter to police two days later and Regis was arrested on Thursday, June 6. He denied the offences initially, but detectives subsequently obtained DNA evidence linking him to the incident. He was charged the following day.
Regis was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, January 31, to 12 years in prison. He has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
Detective Constable Lucy Johnson, of Dorset Police County Safeguarding Hub, said: “I want to thank the victim for her support during this investigation and praise her for the strength she has shown in coming forward and reporting this matter.
“Angelo Regis took advantage of his position and the vulnerabilities of his victim to subject her to a truly terrifying and horrific sexual assault. I hope this case demonstrates that we will do all we can to investigate offences of this nature and hold offenders accountable for their actions and that we will ensure victims are fully supported throughout.
“I also want to thank the Crown Prosecution Service and partner agencies for their continued support during the police Investigation and prosecution.”
