Birmingham rapist Ogochukwu Diayi, 38, jailed after brave victim speaks out about horrifying abuse gets 16 years

A rapist from Birmingham has been jailed after a brave teenager came forward to give evidence about the abuse. Ogochukwu Diayi, from Great Barr, was jailed for 16 years for horrifying crimes against a young victim.

The 38-year-old, of Dyas Avenue, was convicted of several sickening offences against the girl, including rape and assault. He denied his charges, but was found guilty of all of them at a trial.

They were listed as five counts of rape, two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one count of threats to kill. He was locked up at Birmingham Crown Court today, Tuesday, January 21.

He was also handed a restraining order and made to sign the sex offenders register as he was sent to prison. The West Midlands Police probe began after an anonymous call about a girl being sexually abused in October 2023.

Initial police inquiries led officers to identify Diayi as someone they wanted to speak to and he was arrested later that day. Following a thorough investigation, including “brave evidence from the victim”, he was charged with a string of offences, the West Midlands force said.

Det Con Amelia Rose, from West Midlands Police Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “This sentence is reflective of the awful abuse suffered by the victim. She has shown tremendous courage throughout this investigation.

“West Midlands Police encourages anyone who has suffered abuse to come forward. You will be supported, and you will be believed.”
