September 2011

A takeaway worker who preyed on two drunk young students before raping them in his car has been jailed for eight years.

Burly Asim Javed picked up the ‘vulnerable’ girls on two separate occasions as they stumbled home drunk after nights out in Manchester.

Dressed in a black t-shirt, the shaven headed 21-year-old showed no emotion as he was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday.

The mother of one of his victims screamed ‘there’s no sentence long enough for you of how you degraded my daughter’ and branded him an ‘animal’ as he was taken down.

His first victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, got into the 21-year-old’s car in December 2009 when he offered her a lift.

He then forced her to perform a sex act on him, before beating and urinating on her a short distance from her front door.

In September 2010, the depraved Javed raped his next victim, forcing her into his car and threatening her with a knitting needle.

After undressing her he subjected her to a horrific assault before kicking her naked, bruised body into the street.

Her screams were so loud they woke nearby neighbours who raised the alarm.

Prosecuting, Andrew Nuttall QC described Javed as ‘ruthless’ in raping his victims.

Mr Nuttall said: ‘The two attacks by the defendant were upon young and vulnerable girls trying to get home late in the night.

‘He targeted them, terrorised them, raped them and assaulted them.

‘These pitiless acts are graphic illustrations of his feelings towards his victims and indicate the very real danger he represents to all women.’

Sentencing him, His Honourable Judge Goldstone, labelled him ‘highly dangerous’ to the public.

He said: ‘In each case your victims were young. In each case they were total strangers to you when you picked them up from the streets of Greater Manchester at night.

‘You subjected them to violence, humiliation and degradation. You thought only of your sexual needs and perverse ways of gratifying them.

‘You have now brought shame upon your family, your community as well as yourself.

‘The circumstances of these offences make you out as a highly dangerous young man. I have a duty to protect the public until such time it is safe for you to be released.’

Outside the court, Detective Chief Inspector Pete Marsh said Javed would have continued preying on young girls had he not been caught.

DCI Marsh said: ‘He has actually said – and it is on record – that he would have continued offending, so we have stopped other ladies, other girls, other people, their lives being destroyed by capturing this man.

‘He is a very very dangerous man. Nobody has died but they have to live with this for the rest of their lives.

‘On a level he is one of the most dangerous men I have dealt with with this type of offence. He got what he deserved today.’

Javed was given an indeterminate sentence for public protection and must serve at least eight years behind bars before he can apply for parole.
