A 46-year-old man from Abingdon was sentenced to 10 years in prison with an extended four years on licence at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday, October 24. He was found guilty by unanimous jury verdict on:
- Three counts of causing the sexual exploitation of a child
- Three counts of inciting the sexual exploitation of a child
- Six counts of making indecent photographs of children
- One count of arranging the travel of another person with a view to exploitation
- One count of possessing a prohibited image of a child at the same court
Mukesh Bharti, of Overmead, Abingdon, arranged for people to sexually abuse children in the Philippines and sent money for indecent images and videos of children. Police found a large number of category A, B and C indecent images and videos of children while investigating two of Bharti’s mobile phones for an unrelated matter.
Bharti recorded live WhatsApp video calls made to him which he arranged. He directed people to sexual abuse boys and girls, aged between four and 16 years old, in the Philippines on the calls.
‘He has never shown any remorse’
Investigating officer Detective Constable Sarah Osborne said: “I am pleased Mukesh Bharti will spend a significant amount of time in prison for the offences he has been convicted for. He has never shown any remorse for his despicable actions, which would have had a profound and long-lasting effect on the young victims in this case.
Police found a large number of category A, B and C indecent images and videos of children while investigating two of Bharti’s mobile phones for an unrelated matter. There was also a significant amount of communication between Bharti and a large number of people overseas, such as the Philippines and Thailand, which spanned from May 2019 to September 21 last year.
Bharti was asking for and sending payment via Paypal for indecent images and videos of children of various ages. He also arranged for and directed people to sexual abuse boys and girls, aged between four and 16 years old, in the Philippines on live WhatsApp video calls to him, which he recorded.
